Check out what I’ve been working on and keep in touch with how things are going.
School Absenteeism
While researching information a while ago, I came across “Campus Safety Magazine” and found it to have enough interesting information to justify signing up for their email newsletters. A recent article covered a study that researched why students are missing school. Chronic absenteeism has become an issue for almost a quarter of K through 12 students and it continues to be a problem locally here in Fallon at around 21 percent. Below are additional resources to review involving attendance issues. Campus Safety Magazine — Why are students missing school?
ER, Learning, and Being a Child
Our child woke up freaking out inconsolable, crying at full strength and we had no idea what was happening. After nearly an hour of freak out we decided to take the crying child to the ER and see if anything was seriously wrong. After an examination and some tests everything was coming back negative but she was mysteriously no longer crying. Then in a surprising turn of events she threw up!.
Spring 2024 is Here
Summertime is over and Spring is here
This Spring I will be pushing hard for a clean and clear yard. All of the dead spots have been treated and seeded for spring growth. The vast majority of the rest of the property has been spot treated for the removal of noxious invasive weeds that have been blowing over from the next yard over.
Moving for the next two weeks there will be spot removal of the rest of the growth that has not been kept in check. The hit list for the rest of the yard will be:
Deltran
A few weeks ago I purchased a Deltran 10Amp charger/tender as well as some connectors (a ring to SAE connector as well as a SAE extention cord). When the box arrived I was dissapointed to see that the 10Amp Charger/Tender does not have SAE two prong connectors built in to the device. After a little surfing around reviews and thinking over my use case I decided that I would like to have the two prong SAE option and the clamp option to set up for my use case. Here is how I did it.
Rethinking Virtual
We had many great successes in converting to summer camp online, however, we also made some mistakes in the mindset required to redesign a fully fledged physical summer camp and make it into a fully virtual immersive experience. We took all of the components of physical camp and made digital equivalents. This move worked fairly well for many items but where we had the least success is where we started with a real world activity and tried to convert it to the virtual environment. Our program is pretty straight forward to communicate: We have a three hour block of interactive online instruction with some additional time to work on groupwork or projects throughout the day, with social virtual experiences scheduled morning and evening to help recreate the camp experience.
TRICΔMP Clusters
- The Cluster Team: responsible for building groups of merit badges into cohesive themes and designing a project based curriculum around it.
Central to our TRICΔMP program would be the merit badge classes themselves and we spent a large amount of time and resources on designing the best possible program. Several components went into our decision making process and I’ll describe some of the biggest decisions and factors below.
